Niyamas Discussion

NIYAMAS DISCUSSION.

Join Hamish of Apollo Power Yoga on Sunday, 25 June from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm in a niyamas discussion – the five practices that constitute limb number two of the eight limbs of yoga.  Learn more about yoga philosophy and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

In this discussion we will put the niyamas in context and discuss each of the five elements of the niyamas.  You will discover and apply personal disciplines to enhance your life.  You will gain perspective to be more at peace with yourself.  This discussion will help you access the drive to make the most of your time on earth.

More than just poses:

Yoga is so much more than just the poses.  In fact, of the 196 aphorisms in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, only three relate to posture – and two of those relate to one’s state of mind in the posture.  The ethos of the Yoga Sutras is about one’s way of being.  The eight limbs of yoga (asthanga) address the way to an enlightened experience in this lifetime.

In our last philosophical discussion we looked at limb one of the eight – the Yamas.  These are 5 ethical principles to live by.  On this discussion we address limb number two – the niyamas.  Again, there are five niyamas.  These are principles and practices to adopt for oneself to live in a clear, calm, contented and meaningful way.

All are welcome and we look forward to meeting with you to learn together, connect and add to our collective appreciation of yoga as being more than just the poses.
