Two Intensives/One Training:

Apollo Power Yoga holds two Teacher Trainings / Retreats each year.  They have many elements that overlap, but they each have a distinct curriculum, so you will benefit from attending both.

If you are pursuing the teacher training qualification, you will need to attend both.  If it is not convenient to attend both in one year, you may attend one in one year and the other in the following year, preferably, but not necessarily, taking the January intensive first.

You may attend the course as a yoga intensive, to explore and deepen your yoga practice, to learn more of yourself and as an big step forward in your own personal transformation and development.

Yoga Alliance Certification:

Alternatively, you may attend both courses as part of a Yoga Alliance Registered 200-hour teaching qualification.  Your trainers are experienced teachers.  Hamish is ERYT-500 and YACEP.  Margo is ERYT-200.  We have thousands of hours of teaching experience behind us to help you learn.

The Training Location:

Wainui is a beautiful rural resort on Banks Peninsula in the South Island of New Zealand. The venue is a bush-surrounded facility with wonderful bird life, about a 10-minute walk from the beach on Akaroa Harbour, looking across the harbour to Akaroa township. The surroundings provide an ideal opportunity for you to commit your body, mind and spirit to yoga practice and to yoga as a way of being.

Elements of the Training:

This Teacher Training was designed to meet Yoga Alliance criteria for a 200 hour training .  As such it includes four principal curriculum elements of:

  1. Techniques, Training and Practice.
  2. Anatomy and Physiology.
  3. Professional Essentials including teaching methodology and practicum.
  4. Yoga Humanities including philosophy, lifestyle and ethics.

Asana/Meditation/Inquiry:

The three areas of greatest focus will be asana (physical practice, both learning the practice and learning how to teach the practice), meditation, and inquiry (yogic philosophy and ethics).

The elements of the week will serve you well, regardless of whether you are intending to be a yoga teacher or simply wish to follow the yogic thread deeper into yourself and expand your life-force.

Journey into Power:

The practice we train in is “Journey into Power”, a Power Vinyasa yoga practice created by Baron Baptiste.  The book of the same name is the core text and required reading for our Teacher Training. This text is available from Apollo Power Yoga or through on-line booksellers.  If you’re undertaking the Teacher Training, acquire and read the book well ahead of the training, and establish a familiarity with the JIP sequence.

Daily Programme:

The daily programme will typically follow the following pattern:

  • 7:30 – 8:30am Breakfast
  • 9:00am Meditation and discussion
  • 10:30am Asana workshop
  • 1:00pm Lunch
  • 2:00pm Anatomy and Physiology
  • 4:00pm Practice Teaching and Assisting
  • 6:30pm Dinner
  • 7:30pm Inquiry, Philosophy and Ethics
  • 9:30 – 10pm  Meditation

Attendance at all sessions is required if you’re undertaking the Teacher Training.  If you’re attending Step Into Your Power as a Yoga Retreat, you’re welcome to take part in as many or as few of the sessions as suits you.

The sessions will be interactive. The greater your commitment and involvement, the greater will be the rewards for you.

You will have amazing opportunities to grow your connections, both within and beyond yourself.
